The Yo-Yo Emotions journey began in early 2016. I was going through a rough bout with mental illness, and I decided to channel my mental health battle through painting, starting with the piece When You Think All Hope is Lost. As I continued to paint pieces representative of my mental health struggles, I decided to turn the paintings into a series. Over the course of the proceeding years, through jobs, graduate school, and struggles to stay motivated to complete the project, I continued to visually document my struggles, re-doing pieces and editing the concepts of the project to make it more succinct. Yo-Yo Emotions is an exploration of the ebbs and flows of this struggle, and the overarching goal is to educate and to describe visually the motions of depression that many people deal with in their private lives.
